Tunnels play a key role in the evolution and development of cities with the use of subsoil for the construction of several essential infrastructures – thus minimizing the impact of these infrastructures on the urban environment – in terms of transport or water supply and sanitation infrastructures, for example.
The tunnels also function as a connection between communities, crossing mountains and approaching the most isolated regions to urban centres, thus reducing connection times substantially.
The discipline of Geology & Geotechnics, represented by our experienced team of experts, develops the coordination and management of projects in this area, as well as all geotechnical site investigation plans, feasibility studies, geological and geotechnical risks assessment, and tunnel and rehabilitation detailed designs, which encompass all the complementary services developed by GEG.
GEG has the competence and experience required to carry on tunnel design, defining and selecting the tunnel execution method according to the complexities and constraints of each project. These methods of execution vary between cut-and-cover, top-down and NATM (New Austrian Tunnelling method) tunnels and tunnels executed with TBM (Tunnel boring machine).
