The Roadway Tunnel of Access to the Maritime Operations Terminal is part of the Port Ring Road (VCP). This is the main road in the Port of Leixões. The area in question of the VCP is uneven, in excavation, between the Dock 1-South and the South Jetty.

The tunnel eliminates conflicts between freight traffic within the port and local traffic associated with the fishing port. It also allows isolation from the exterior to the spaces of circulation and temporary storage of goods not cleared through customs.

The tunnel is developed in a complex geotechnical environment, with sandy and rocky zones, with its road alignment lying beneath sea level.

The structural and constructive solution was developed to meet these constraints and implemented in a phased way not to interrupt access to the fishing port.
