ABOUT
The expansion of the South Container Terminal at the Port of Leixões was a vital measure to increase the importance and dynamics of an infrastructure which has a great impact on the whole north area of the Iberian Peninsula.
This part of the port occupies a 16 ha area and this specific project demanded the duplication of the area for containers storage and the design of a new extension for the existent railway, 500 meters in double track, in order to make it reach a more external end of the new containers storage area.
With this work, the south terminal acquired a capacity for 10.000 containers, which represents an annual capacity to deal with 226.000 containers.
This project is included in GEG’s vast portfolio of projects in the Port of Leixões – one of the most important port infrastructures and maritime communication gates of Portugal – where GEG has been developing, for over two decades, a continuous and full range of activities in multiple areas.
