ABOUT
In the context of the project for the expansion and rehabilitation of the Marina of Leixões and its surroundings, GEG developed the conceptual design and detailed design of a new quay bridge, including the geological and geotechnical studies for the foundation, the structural design, the coordination of architecture and engineering design. GEG also performed on-site technical support.
This quay bridge would be used to support an international sailing event in 2007 but would also become a permanent structure, aiming thus a long life cycle and reduced maintenance requirements. With that purpose, it was chosen a fixed bridge/pier solution, which establishes continuity between the existing quay, with access to the marina, at the water level, through a floating pontoons dock, and a linking ramp.
The quay bridge’s deck is 10 meters wide and 60 meters long. The deck uses a composite solution, with concrete slab, mostly pre-cast, supported on steel profiles.
