Encarnação Metro Station

ABOUT

The project of extension of the Red Line to the Airport was part of a plan to expand Lisbon’s metro network. Within this extension, three new stations were planned, including the Encarnação metro station.

The Encarnação Metro Station is constituted by six levels: the ground level floor, with three access points, three other intermediate levels, the platform level and the bottom slab floor that serves as technical area.

Geotechnical solution

The excavation reached a maximum depth of 35 m, while the water level was 15 m below surface. The outer walls were 0,50 m thick. Structurally, the bottom slab served as mat foundation.

The most economical construction method imposed the construction of some levels of slabs by the top-down method, for shoring the walls. At the surface, the roof is slanted and presents different inclinations in order to adapt to the complex morphology of the terrain.
