Gouvães Quarry, with all its equipment for exploring the existent granite rock mass in the region, was built to provide all the necessary aggregate material for the concrete batching plants responsible for the construction of Tâmega’s Electricity Production System.
The system consists of three dams and Iberdrola is the Owner of this development.
The quarry covers an area of about 278 thousand square meters, with an extraction area of 133 thousand square meters whereas the processing equipment and facilities take about 142 thousand square meters.
GEG was responsible for providing the Detailed Design of several design disciplines, namely:
Provided with the definition and needs of this industrial facility and all the production equipment, GEG was responsible for coordinating all the design disciplines, in cooperation with the Client (DST), the Owner (Iberdrola) and some specific suppliers for the Design, such as the precasters of the box-culverts and the designer/supplier of the silos.
It should be noted that the proposed solutions considered the fact that, after the production period, it will be necessary to dismantle the quarry and provide a landscape recovery of the site.
