Assigned with responsibilities as general consultant and as geotechnical, foundations and engineering designer, GEG was involved in the construction of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Leça da Palmeira, which provided an important experience in the development of this type of environmental equipment.

The specific geotechnical studies for sandy soils and the design of special structures like tanks, decanters and desanders were among the most outstanding aspects of this assignment.

An extensive geotechnical survey was performed to collect data required to model the foundation slabs. Other studies were conducted to support a proposal to discard the tank’s internal coating solution in favour of a special concrete.

This WWTP is now a fundamental structure in the operation of municipal wastewater management, cleaning and depollution of rivers and streams and recovery of the shoreline.
