ABOUT

CUF Medical Institute of Diagnosis and Treatment is a private Hospital located in Matosinhos, Portugal.

It has 21.000 m² of construction area with a large offer in terms of medical consultancy and examinations in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Pulmonology and Urology.

The building also has 250 parking spaces divided by four underground floors.

Structural solution

The structure of the building is composed of a reinforced concrete columns grid, flat slabs with drops and a central core.

The retaining walls of the four levels of underground slabs comprise concrete walls with a thickness of 0.35 m.

The foundations were executed using wells supported directly in the competent stratum.

Adjacent to the main building there are two special areas that accommodate the radiology area and also the cyclotron. The walls of the radiology area were executed with concrete produced with barite (γ=32 kN/m³) and have a thicknesses that can reach a maximum of 1.75 m.

The walls of the cyclotron have a thickness of 0.30 m.

The façades have a brise-soleil system in steel structure to provide an adequate sun protection. This structure, besides serving as a solar protection system, also assumes the function of emergency evacuation, allowing the escape through a system of footbridges on each floor which surround the entire perimeter of the building. The vertical communication is made through two exterior steel ladders.
