ABOUT
UBI Medical is located in Covilhã and is the most important investment in the scientific area made in this region in the last years with a construction area of 3.000 m2.
The UBI Medical is an innovative building on its area and houses laboratories for medical research and also a dedicated area for start-up companies. With a construction area of three thousand square meters, the UBI Medical represented an investment of €3 million. Its construction started on 2012 and opened on 30th April 2013.
Structural solution
The building consists of a reinforced concrete structure with a partially underground level where the ground floor is located, level 1 and the roof. There’s also a secondary roof that allows the ventilation of the building.
Geotechnical solution
The excavation reaches a maximum depth of 4 m and given the geotechnical characteristics of the foundation soil, two different foundations solutions were adopted. Part of the building is supported by deep foundations with 0.60m diameter piles and the rest of the building is supported by shallow foundations.
