ABOUT
Espinho Tunnel’s built structure can be divided into two major segments corresponding to the areas in the ditch, built on the approach ramps, and the area in the gallery, built in the central section of the new railway, where the station is located. Each one of these areas was subdivided accordingly to the depth of the excavation to be made and the cross-section type of the structural solution adopted.
The excavation was carried out in safety with the protection of diaphragm walls with a thickness between 0,8 m and 1,0 m, with an average height of 10,0 m, executed in a surface layer of sand dune overlying a weathered to moderately weathered schist.
