Museum of the Electric Car

ABOUT

The museum of the Car Electric is a building of exceptional interest and patrimonial value, located in the city of Porto, next to the Douro River on the Marginal.

The museum is located in the old Massarelos Thermoelectric Power Plant, a central that has been constructed with the purpose of doing the power supply for the eletric cars in the city of Porto. The original building was designed by Couto dos Santos and the construction was completed in 1915. The building consists of two large naves that were the home of steam generators (boilers) and the engine room.

GEG  design included the structural inspection and the structural rehabilitation design. The rehabilitation intervention aimed an extension of the useful life of the structure, taking always into consideration the principle of reversibility, preserving the integrity of the original structure.

The Museum of the Electric Car assumes as its mission to preserve and interpret, for the benefit of the public, species and artefacts illustrative and representative of the history and development of urban public transport on rails of the city of Porto.
