GEG participated in ARRÁBIDA50 – International Colloquium on Bridges and Heritage, held in Porto on the 21st of June at Alfândega do Porto. This colloquium celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Arrábida Bridge opening and the 100th anniversary of the birth of its author, Edgar Cardoso.
The Arrábida Bridge is a well-recognized landmark and a masterpiece in Bridge Engineering. The used construction method was an operation of extraordinary thoroughness and ingenuity, never accomplished till that date. At the inauguration date, the Arrábida Bridge set the world record for the biggest span of a concrete arch bridge.
The relation of Arrábida Bridge with the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia and their inhabitants has been strong since its erection and its classification as a National Monument took place this year. Specialists of great quality shared their approaches to the colloquium theme under different perspectives, such as technical, artistic, landscaping, historical and patrimonial.
