Tender Design for Paving & Utilities Works for the Tema Port Expansion Project

ABOUT

Meridian Port Services Limited is currently the largest container terminal operator in Ghana, and jointly formed by the Ghanaian Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Meridian Port Holdings Ltd (MPH), which in turn is formed by APM Terminals (APMT) and Bolloré Africa Logistics (BAL). MPS started operations in the port of Tema in 2007 and currently has a capacity of around 800,000 TEU per year. MPS is investing in a new container terminal some 3 km southwest of MPS’ current facility.

The Marine Works construction consisting of the breakwater, quay wall, dredging and reclamation started in 2016 and were not part of the current tender. The tender design of the Landside Works carried out by GEG comprised port infrastructure and utilities, pavement and various other terminal infrastructures and a number of building and equipment packages within the same reclaimed area.

As the bidding contractor’s designer, GEG’s scope of work included Paving and surfacing (grading), eRTG crane infrastructure, Reefer gantries access structures, Storm water drainage systems, MV ducting and draw pits, LV power distribution system including ducting, draw pits and cabling, Site-wide communications and IT ductwork and draw pits, Service water system, Firefighting system including firefighting water distribution system, Fire pump station and Fire water tank, Waste water treatment plant and sanitary sewage collection and discharge system, Buildings and Structures such as Amenity blocks, a Tug boat shelter, a Troubleshooting office and Bus stops, Utility connections to all buildings and facilities, Port Gate booths and canopies and access gates, including electrical, IT and instrumentation, MPS Gate booths and canopies and terminal access gates, including electrical, IT and instrumentation, Pedestrian gates including turnstiles and access control, Scanners areas, Sighting area, Lighting including lighting columns, luminaries and foundations, Lightning protection and earthing systems, eVehicle charging facilities, Fencing, including terminal fencing and port wall.
