Buildings - Mixed-Use

Al Ghubrah Building

ABOUT

GEG has been engaged to provide engineering design for the Al Ghubrah Building with a total area of approximately 5,500 m².

The building has one underground basement level to be used as parking and retail. This level is enclosed by 0.50 m reinforced concrete retaining walls. The water level was found close to the ground floor level, being necessary a raft foundation.

The building, with 7 upper floors for commercial and residential use, comprises four structural independent buildings separated by movement joints provided to control temperature, moisture, acoustic and ground movements.

From Level -1 to Level 0 it was adopted a flat slab solution, and from Level 1 to the Roof Level was adopted a two-way solid slab system with down stand beams. Flat slabs have a thickness of 0.30 m while the solid slabs have 0.20 m.

Vertical transportation is facilitated using a combination of mechanical lifts and stairs. There are two kinds of structural cores, the interior lift and stairs shafts formed using reinforced concrete cores and the exterior stairs formed using steel structural frames.

The materials adopted in structural elements are reinforced concrete and structural steel.
